The king at the time, Louis XIV, liked the look so much he adopted it into his own fashion oeuvre. Had the Italian brand Brunello Cucinelli existed then, we might hazard a guess as to what particular modern tie the royal would have chosen - this silk jacquard iteration would be our first choice.
